Please note, this is a full-time, in-person position based out of 550 West 6th Avenue, in Vancouver. 

 

Function and purpose

Reporting to the Director of the Professional and Social Issues Division (PSID), the Assistant Director, TIP/Professional Support Co-ordinator provides co-ordination of the Federation’s TIP and professional development network, and assists in supporting the Federation’s School Union Representative Training (SURT) program.

 

Principal duties and responsibilities

The successful candidate for this position will be involved in:

  • providing oversight of the Federation's TIP initiatives.
  • providing support for TIP Inquiry projects.
  • providing training of the TIP facilitators.
  • promoting the TIP with locals and members.
  • providing regular reporting on TIP activities.
  • ensuring the effective development and delivery of Federation training programs.
  • assisting with the development of effective professional development (PD) networks.
  • co-ordinating in the development of SURT workshops.
  • assisting with curriculum issues and with the appointment of Ministry committees and Focused Education Resources. 

 

Other duties and responsibilities

  • co-ordinating the Professional Issues Advisory Committee (PIAC)
  • co-ordinating TeachBC
  • other duties and Federation initiatives as assigned.

 

Required qualifications

  • Education
    • successful completion of a Bachelor of Education (BEd) degree or a university degree and completion of a teacher education program.
  • Experience and competencies
    • experience with, and knowledge of, teacher inquiry practices and structure
    • experience and expertise in the development, delivery, and co-ordination of workshops for adult learners
    • demonstrated knowledge and understanding of current professional issues of teaches
    • proven excellent writing skills
    • highly developed organizational skills
    • extensive voluntary and/or elected service in teacher organization work including issues of PD
    • excellent communication and administrative skills and computer literacy
    • experience in problem-solving and conflict resolution with individuals and groups
    • proven ability to function both independently and work collaboratively as a member of a team
    • university training, public school teaching experience, preferably in British Columbia.
  • Other desired qualifications, skills, and abilities
    • flexibility to work evenings and weekends
    • flexibility to travel
    • ability to communicate in French would be an asset
    • understanding of issues of social justice, equity, diversity, decolonization, and inclusion (JEDDI) with a desire to further develop in these areas.

 

Compensation

A competitive compensation package will be provided including a starting salary of $123,414.30 per annum (however, may differ if applicant has previous BCTF staff experience), a Special Allowance of $3,551.59 per annum, and excellent benefits including:
